Implementing the Occupational Health and Safety Management SystemThe OHSAS StandardAt the current time, the International Standards Organisation (ISO) does not publish a standard for Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). However, the British Standards Institute continues to lead the world on the development of guidelines for the implementation of health and safety standards in the work place. BSI has been publishing its guidelines for many years under the general heading "OHSAS 18000" and, in 2007, those guidelines were adopted as an international standard known as "OHSAS 18001". In 2008, BSI published further guidelines for the implementation of the new standard. Those guidelines are known as "OHSAS 18002". Both of these standards have been re-publised world-wide under the badge of regional Health & Safety Executives. Because it is a standard, the wording is similar in all international versions. The OHSAS Toolkit™This toolkit is an additional set of detailed guidelines for helping you to implement your OSHA policies in accordance with the standard. It explains in plain English how to perform a risk assessment of hazards in the workplace and includes a set of interactive survey forms (MSWord format) which help identify areas requiring immediate action. The complete contents of the kit are listed on "contents" page.
